“Quo Vadis” linocut Series

Definition of quo vadis?  where are you going…

In this expanding series, Annemie Odendaal is questioning a lot of political, religious and cultural traditions. She has taken public sculptures from all over the world as a basis to make it universal, and using the female figure as a symbol of both freedom and captivity.

She  lets the viewer re-assess their lives, values and where they are going, from an objective point of view – both globally and introspectively. On another level it is also whimsical and hopeful, and masks the deeper meaning, which is also what she wants her art to do: transcend above this all, and just bring joy to the viewer.

This series became particularly important for her to do, after we had the opportunity to take a “universal pause” during this global pandemic, reassessing and redirecting our lives.
